Processing

Mattresses are a growing concern for all landfill operators as it takes, on average, 10+ years for one mattress to rot down which creates a void space in the landfill. Some landfill operators have banned mattresses concerned with the damage they cause to vehicles running over them and their own landfill machinery.

In this case, the mattress created anti-social behaviour, the fire brigade attended and the local Council removed what was left of the mattress and it ultimately ended up in landfill. What was the cost of the mattress? A growing concern for all communities and a waste of resource.

Recycling

New mattress
